Mission - adopted Oct 2002

Pacific Grove Neighbors was founded -

  • Because Pacific Grove's irreplaceable natural beauty and visible historic small town character requires resolute public stewardship; and
  • Because an honest, effective, democratic process absolutely depends upon informed involved citizenry; and
  • To ensure full public participation in governmental affairs.

Goals

Substantive Environmental Protection

To work to -

  • Eliminate Noise, Light, Water, and other Pollution.
  • Fully protect, conserve, and restore healthy habitats for all native species, especially native animals and Monterey pines, and water bodies potentially affected by the city including the Monterey Bay and the Carmel River - our source of drinking water.
  • Protect, Conserve and Restore Historic buildings.
  • Stop all increases in Water Use.
  • Stop increases in Traffic. Support Traffic reduction measures.
  • Support Zoning Law and Design Guidelines which assure consistency of building mass, height and design with both character and scale of its neighborhood and our town as a whole.

Financially Responsible Government

Take measures to insure that the City is managed in a financially responsible manner.

Responsive and Accountable Government

Promote a democratic city government, which is both responsive to resident's needs and is immediately accountable for its actions.

Public Interest Advocacy

Advocate residents' interests consistent with our mission.

Information Provider

Provide community with reliable, unbiased information with mailings, newsletters, tabling, website, email list, public forums, seminars and a telephone tree.

Effective Participation Assistance

  • Provide education and motivation so more citizens will participate effectively in the democratic process of city government.
  • Monitor all city meetings.

Active support for candidates who support our mission.
